Getting ready to make books
Stay tuned for the final project…
Students are given found objects and a written phrase or sentence. They are encouraged to create a work of art that stems from these materials.
Objective: Students will research the materials and phrase given to them and begin to get visual references of how to communicate their idea. The object is to dissect the idea from beginning to completion of the creative process. The final product is of little importance. the main objective is for students to leave with an understanding of concept development and independent thinking.

Gregory — was informed by his installation in the painting room. He set a time frame in which he would dry continuously.
Brittany Rolley : collected fingerprints and completed a Visual of her thumb print by using her thumb as a mark making tool
Ashley wanted to make multiple sea horses. The first idea was sea shells — see how important it is to research and brainstorm? — sea horses are much more unique! Through the process of making Ashley came up with a system that was most efficient. be still my heart not only did she explore multiples but she also explored working with a system! ” what’s a system? I think my idea is this: not so much structure that it’s inhibiting or that there’s no wiggle room, but not so loose that it could be anything. I guess it’s like a corral around your idea, a corral that you can move — but not too much. And it’s that limited movement that promotes creativity.” John Baldessari
Dustin always blows my mind. He has been collecting movie tickets since he first went to the movies. 289? Sorry Dustin I lost count. Perfect opportunity to bring in an artist personal collection as art itself. Problems of presentation and storage of his collection were solved in the completion of the project.
Hundreds of pictures printed out in different hues and cut up and pasted to make a big picture. This girl has patience and very tidy craftsmanship
Morgan had a hard time coming up with a concept that was unique and a little out side of the box. After a group brainstorming session we found out Morgan wears crazy socks and rarely does she wear a matching pair. She stitched a quilted pattern out of her old mismatched socks. Very fun, clever, and interesting. This color is much more interesting than a rainbow don’t cha think?
Tanesha’s project was very quiet and intimate. She wrote different qualities about herself and glued them to a glass bubble, and then glued them to a vase and put a candle in it. Presentation made this very interesting. She turned the lights off and presented it on the floor. Metaphor: you want to learn about Tanesha it will take some effort 🙂
Battina (should be a painting major). What a clever way to re-purpose and re-use materials! She used the back of her business cards as a canvas and painted a small painting on each one.
Wow. Sarah made shrines — of her favorite authors and artists. The authors are in shadow boxes and the artists are in frames.
Audrey completed a fire drawing by arranging hundreds of matches with the heads touching so the flame would keep going. The video won’t show in this blog sorry Audrey. She used Awesome way to solve the project.
Jeremy worked with magnets that he painted and placed on an interesting design.
